Haand Beer Festival 2012

First pour...

As I mentioned on the blog last month we were delighted earlier in the year to be invited to our first European beer festival in the shape of Haand Brewery's festival on the weekend 4th/5th May. This was Norway's first craft beer festival, and would be held in Haand's new brewery in Drammen near Oslo. Much like in the UK the Norwegian beer scene has exploded over the last couple of years and over 1000 advance tickets had been sold for the two day event. HaandBryggeriet have been making great beers now for over 7 years, they're well respected across Europe for their innovative beers and for their...

Bourbon Barrel Bearded Lady…

MBR_keg_clip_BBL

With the last keg going to our event at BrewDog Glasgow, Bearded Lady our 10.5% Imperial Stout has now regrettably all left the brewery until we brew it again at the end of the year... or has it? We decided at the time that it would be fun to play around with some barrel aging and after a brief discussion got hold of a 54gallon once filled Bourbon cask. This was duly filled to the brim with Bearded Lady and we sat back and eagerly awaited the results. BrewDog Glasgow, Tap Takeover…

MBR_TT_BREWDOG

We're heading north of the border again in a few weeks, this time to Scotland's largest city and the craft beer destination that is BrewDog Glasgow.  On Thursday 15th March we'll be taking over as many taps as we can at BrewDog's third bar which opened last year. BrewDog have been an inspiring influence on Magic Rock and have been really supportive of our new brewery and what we're trying to achieve; their beers, passion and enthusiasm have been a breath of fresh air to the UK beer scene over the last 5 years and we're delighted to be one of the first UK breweries invited to do an event...

February Update..

san diego

Head brewer Stu and myself headed over to San Diego at the end of January on a research trip/beer pilgrimage to visit some of the breweries which inspired Magic Rock. We've long revered the beers of the area and were interested to see how the breweries operate and pick up some useful information on best practices. We had an amazing time chatting with brewers and seeing how some of the worlds best beers are produced. The beer scene in the US continues to be very vibrant and San Diego in particular a really exciting place to visit with so much experimentation and passion evident everywhere...
