30th Sep — 16th Dec

The Electric Theatre Cinema is all about engaging, affecting films – both showing them to our community and engendering the making of them.

“We’re a not for profit community interest company, bringing community cinema and themed events to both our home base of Marsden and further afield.

We source and show interesting, independent films and encourage the creation of short films by showcasing new talent (watch this space for news about our first film festival).

We have separate family-orientated events too, so everyone can enjoy the kinds of films you may not see at the local multiplex. And we also host Food and Film nights: wonderful themed evenings that bring together a great mix of people to enjoy a three-course meal before watching the film itself.

This is a Shhh! silent cinema event using digital headphones and big screen to provide an immersive cinematic experience!”

Autumn / Winter 2018 Programme

Sunday 30th September – Vanishing Point (Cert. 18)

Director: Richard C. Sarafian
Stars: Barry Newman, Cleavon Little, Charlotte Rampling

Our season opener at Magic Rock Tap is a full on cult classic and a rare opportunity to watch it on the big screen.

Vanishing Point is a weirdly cool, existential car chase movie from 1971. It’s a high concept movie as a dude named Kowalski (Barry Newman) has to drive from Colorado to San Fran in under fifteen hours to meet a bet, cops be damned. All to a cool retro soundtrack of American soul, blues and rock.

It’s a film about the need for speed and going out in a blaze of glory. The dusty American desert horizon has never looked so deadly and enticing….

Watch carefully because everything happens fast. The chase. The desert. The shack. The girl. The roadblock. The end.

This is an immersive cinema experience using digital headphones…

Street food from Little Bao Boy, serving up fresh, hand made bao buns with a tasty filling and a hint of western influence.

Film starts 18:30. Street food traders at the tap serving until 18:00.

Sunday 28th October – The Thing (Cert. 18)

Dir: John Carpenter
Cast: Kurt Russell, Wilfred Brimley, T.K. Carter, Donald Moffat, David clennon

John Carpenter’s horror/sci-fi classic is a film that never disappoints, despite the advent of glossy CGI special effects since its release in 1982.

Kurt Russell’s McReady and co are holed up in a remote US National science Institute Station in the Antarctic. The crew are so isolated they might as well be in space as they face a deadly re-awakened extraterrestrial force which wreaks havoc in the station. Full of paranoia and outrageous body horror, this is a genre defining movie that stands the test of time.

Street food from Low and Slow, Texan style BBQ in Birmingham, UK. Nomadic BBQ warriors trying to find a home. Expect Brisket, Ribs, Sausage and barbacoa.

Film starts 18:30. Street food traders at the tap serving until 18:00.
