Hawkshead’s Spring Beer Fest, Fri 15th – Sun 17th March
2014 is going so quickly and amazingly its already time for Hawkshead Brewery’s Spring Beer Fest! This year Hawkshead asked us if we’d like to represent the cold and fizzy side of the festival by loaning them our keg bar for the weekend and we were more than happy to oblige. The bar will be upstairs in the malt loft area next to the Riverside bar and there’ll be 7 of our keg beers on at one point or another over the weekend.
MD Rich recently joined forces with Hawkshead’s head brewer Matt Clark to brew a collaborative beer especially for the festival. This was the first official collaboration Hawkshead have ever put their name to, and as long time fans of their beers we were delighted to be asked.
The beer we’ve called ‘The Illusionist’ will officially be launched at the festival on Friday in cask and keg, so if you want to be one of the first to taste what we came up with, get down there this weekend. As usual there’ll be loads of great beer, food and music over the 3 days, more information including a list of all the beers here: Hawkshead Spring Beer Fest
BrewDog Sheffield Meet The Brewer, Thurs 13th March
Head brewer Stuart will be at BrewDog’s newest bar in Sheffield this Thursday for a mini tap-takeover/meet the brewer. The bar only opened last weekend and by all accounts is a great addition to the vibrant Sheffield beer scene.
There’ll be 9 of our beers pouring from 8pm including a Tequila barrel aged version of the India Wit ‘Slapstick’ we brewed exclusively for BrewDog, and a first chance to taste our new Vienna IPA ‘Villainous’ (see below), Stu will be loitering in his new ‘local’ all evening, get down there and ask him questions…
Villainous: Vienna IPA 6.5%
We’ve wanted to include another IPA in the range for a while so we picked up with an idea that Stu first mentioned back in 2011, an IPA containing 100% Vienna malt. In contrast to what we wanted with Cannonball this would give the beer a bit more body and also a biscuity/toasty flavour to balance the hops against.
Speaking of hops we used a combination of experimental hop 366 and Citra in both the hop back and dry hopping which has packed the beer with loads of resionus, juicy fruit flavour. The first chance to try the beer will be at BrewDog Sheffield this Thursday, here are some tasting notes to whet your appetite…
“We changed tack slightly with our new IPA, looking for more body and intensity of flavour we used a 100% Vienna Malt base to give the beer a biscuity malt backbone. We then got thoroughly sinful with an outrageous hopping schedule featuring a scandalous combination of tropically fruity US hops. Mango, Papaya, Guava, Grapefruit & Citrus combine for a wickedly juicy flavour-filled experience & a fiendishly moreish bitterness full of Villainous intent”.
UnHuman Cannonball IIIPA 2014
With the last of the hops we need arriving this week, this Wednesday’s brew is our 2014 batch of UnHuman Cannonball Triple IPA. We have a couple of tweaks to the recipe and process in mind which we learned from last years beer and while the batch size will be the same we’re hoping there’ll be a few more bottles available this time.
We were hoping to launch the beer at our new brewery site but as our move is still some months away we decided to do a simultaneous bar launch of the beer on Thursday April 10th. Once again we’ll be in London at last years excellent venue Craft Beer Co. Islington but this year we’ll also be launching the beer nearer to home with our friends at Port St. Beer House in Manchester.
Both venues will have draught and bottled UnHuman Cannonball available on the night and as with last year we’re also aiming to have the bottles available to buy online from our webshop on the same day. Hope you’re looking forward to this years batch as much as we are!SHARE THIS
